ما هو التوحد؟

Autism, or Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), is a difference in the way a child communicates, interacts, and experiences the world. Each child with autism is unique, with their own strengths and challenges, so no two children look exactly the same. Autism usually becomes noticeable in the first years of life, often around 18–30 months, when parents see differences in language, play, or social interaction compared with other children the same age.

Common Early Signs Parents Notice Not all children will show the same signs, but you may notice:

  • Limited or no eye contact, or avoiding looking at faces.
  • Not responding to their name or to familiar voices.
  • Preferring to play alone and not seeking cuddles or interaction as much as expected.
  • Delayed language, or loss of words they used to say.
  • Repeating words or phrases (echolalia) without using them to communicate needs.
  • Little use of gestures like pointing, waving, or showing you things they like.
  • Strong reactions (or almost no reaction) to sounds, lights, textures, or touch.
  • Repetitive movements such as hand‑flapping, rocking, or spinning, or fixating on certain routines or objects. If you recognize several of these signs, it does not mean you did anything wrong as a parent. It simply means your child may need a different kind of support.

Why Evaluation and Early Therapy Matter The earlier we identify autism and start therapies, the better children tend to do over time. Early intervention takes advantage of how rapidly a young child’s brain is growing, which makes it easier to build new communication, social, and learning skills. Even if your child is older, it is never too late to seek a diagnostic evaluation for autism. A clear diagnosis can open the door to therapies, school supports, and community resources at any age. At Little Miracles Pediatrics, we offer formal autism evaluations using the ADOS‑2 (Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule, Second Edition), and I personally perform this test to ensure a careful, individualized assessment. If you have concerns about your child’s development or behavior, we are here to guide you through the evaluation process and next steps.

Faster Path From Evaluation to Therapy At Little Miracles Pediatrics, we do not have a long waiting list for autism evaluations, which means your child can be seen and tested much sooner. A timely evaluation helps families move more quickly into therapies such as speech therapy, occupational therapy, feeding therapy, physical therapy, and ABA, so children can start building new skills as early as possible. If you have concerns about your child’s development or behavior, we’re here to guide you through every step—from your first questions, to a clear diagnosis (if appropriate), to connecting you with the right therapy services for your child

How Children Can Grow With the Right Therapies With the right combination of therapies, many children with autism make meaningful progress in their daily lives. Speech therapy (ST) can help children communicate their needs, use more words, and better express themselves. Occupational therapy (OT) supports skills like play, self‑care, sensory regulation, and fine motor tasks such as using utensils or dressing. Physical therapy (PT) can improve balance, strength, and coordination so children move more confidently and safely. Feeding therapy helps children expand the foods they accept, improve chewing and swallowing, and reduce mealtime stress for the whole family. Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) therapy is a highly researched, evidence‑based approach that uses positive reinforcement to teach new skills, reduce challenging behaviors, and support greater independence at home, school, and in the community.

You’re not alone in this journey, and you don’t have to have everything figured out to take the next step. If you’re noticing differences in your child’s communication, behavior, or play, it is always okay to ask questions and seek guidance. At Little Miracles Pediatrics, our goal is to partner with you, listen to your concerns, and provide thoughtful, evidence‑based care so your child can reach their fullest potential. When you’re ready, we’re here to help you schedule an autism evaluation and move forward with the support and therapies your child deserves.
